Residents of Portsmouth, Virginia, must say goodbye to one of their favorite meteorologists. Casey Lehecka, the host of What the Lehecka and a meteorologist for WAVY-TV 10, has announced her departure from the station in November 2021.
The announcement surprises viewers, who are left with many unanswered questions. They are mostly interested in knowing why Casey Lehecka is leaving and where she is going next. She answered the majority of questions, but it’s unclear when the weatherwoman will return to broadcast television.
Casey Lehecka Resigns From WAVY-TV 10
Casey Lehecka, a former gymnastics instructor, earned a meteorology degree from Penn State University in 2017. She moved to Portsmouth, Virginia, in 2018, after beginning her broadcasting career in Pennsylvania.
Lehecka has been a member of WAVY-TV 10’s weather team since November 2018. She hosted the What the Lehecka segment, as well as the weekend morning weather and weekday forecasts at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Emma, Lehecka’s daughter, will be born in November 2020 to her husband, Eric Johnson. Viewers were overjoyed for her, and she gladly shared glimpses of Emma’s development with her social media followers.
Lehecka understandably wants to spend as much time as she can with her daughter and family. That is why she has announced her departure from WAVY TV 10.
Lehecka will be off the air on November 4th. The decision was made after Lehecka and the station couldn’t agree on a schedule that would allow her to spend more time with her family.
Casey Lehecka hasn’t revealed any future plans other than sleeping in and spending more time with her family. She has not stated whether she has another job lined up or if she plans to return to broadcasting anytime soon.
To be clear, the meteorologist isn’t going anywhere. The Pennsylvania native is also staying in Portsmouth and has no plans to leave anytime soon.
Casey Lehecka will be missed by WAVY 10 viewers. They are pleased that she is prioritizing her daughter and hope to see her back on broadcast television soon.
