TV Host Tony McEwing Sadly Lost His Partner To Cancer – Details Here!

Tony McEwing, a Fox 11 representative and Good Day L.A. anchor, lost his 17-year companion in July 2016 due to medical personnel’s failure to diagnose his stage IV cancer early enough.

The Fox host also scared his followers when he didn’t appear on numerous episodes of his show in February 2020. However, a month later, the newscaster explained why this was the case, putting his fans at ease.

McEwing’s gay partner passed away from cancer

Skiff, McEwing’s companion, died at their home with the Fox presenter by his side after a courageous battle with throat cancer. Only a year after marrying in April 2015, the Fox TV representative lost his better half. The couple, though, had been together since the late 1990s. When the late artist wrote an article for Queerty about his HPVā€“Related Oral Cancer, which eventually led to his death in July 2016, he hinted at their long relationship.

He penned the poem from his hospital bed so that no one else would have to go through the suffering he had, and to prevent others from obtaining a life-saving diagnosis too late. In addition, he talked about how tough it was to see his partner’s tears as he watched him fight for his life.

Skiff’s Oral Cancer Was Misdiagnosed by Doctors

Skiff’s life-threatening stage IV cancer was misdiagnosed four times. According to the Querty report, doctors were unable to detect HPV-related oral cancer due to a lack of FDA-approved screening methods, inadequate research, and physicians’ complete ignorance. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, Skiff’s HIV status just made things worse.

In the winter of 2013, he experienced irritation in his throat for approximately three weeks. The discomfort started lightly but quickly escalated. When he went to see his HIV specialist for a check-up, the doctor dismissed his claims of throat cancer. He then went to his dentist for an oral examination, but the dentist found no evidence of cancer and diagnosed him with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder instead.
Following that, two additional ENT specialists failed to detect his condition and prescribed antibiotics. Skiff’s health continued to deteriorate, and in October 2013, he underwent a CT scan and biopsy, which revealed that he had severe stage IV cancer that had spread to his lymph nodes on the right side of his neck.

My wrath was boiling over. It was not surprising that I got cancer. But how could it be that I recognized that I was at high risk for HPV-related oral cancer when my doctors did not?
As soon as he was diagnosed with cancer, he began treatment with a mix of chemotherapy and radiation.

McEwing Set the Record Straight on His Disappearance

In February 2020, the Fox 11 News Anchor made a post on his Facebook page explaining why he hadn’t been featured in a few episodes of the Morning Newscast. He announced that he had been diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. He explained that his case was minor and that he would not return to work until he felt better.

The condition causes transitory facial muscular paralysis, resulting in face drooping and a one-sided smile. Although the exact etiology is uncertain, it is thought to be caused by swelling or inflammation of a facial nerve that governs movement.

After nearly a month since his February Facebook post, the host returned to his work desk and reported his Bell’s Palsy recovery on Instagram. He is currently well and continues to serve as the official news anchor on Fox 11.
