After graduation, Tommy Thayer formed the band Black ‘n Blue in 1981. He was the lead guitarist at the pub. After touring throughout Portland, the band began playing in southern California in 1983. The band had a lot of success, and it achieved its biggest hit six months after signing an a recording deal with Geffen Records, a well-known worldwide record label.
Around 1984, the band worked with Scorpions producer Dieter Dierks to release some hit German songs, including “Hold on to 18” and “School of Hard Knocks.” Along with them, the album Black ‘n Blue was released. They’ve also released Without Love and Nasty Nasty compilations. Unfortunately, the band disbanded in 1988 for unclear reasons.
Later, Gene Simmons, Kiss’s bassist, and Paul Stanley hired Thayer, who later joined the band. Thayer worked as a manager for the 1995 Worldwide Kiss convention tour. Thayer also created and edited the majority of Kiss’ videos. Tommy Thayer assisted Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, who play guitar and drums, respectively, in relearning their original 1970s parts. Thayer has since performed lead guitar with the Kiss, commencing with a private show in Trelawny in 2002.
