Derrick Campana, the creator and CEO of Animal Ortho Care, is now a part of Animal Planet’s new Dodo Heroes series. The prosthetics specialist initially focused on treating humans, but after a client brought in a dog that was unable to walk, he became obsessed with assisting as many animals as possible. Derrick Campana has assisted thousands of animals in walking and running with his specialized prosthetic care, despite the fact that he claims his work is one of those that sounds “made up.” In addition to helping numerous animals abroad, he travels for work.
Campana has appeared on TED Talks, and Animal Planet is now following him for a new program. Campana is a committed individual with a goal to assist as many animals as he can.
Bio of Derrick Campana
An organization that not only saves animals but also raises awareness has grown out of Derrick Campana’s love for animal rescue. When a veterinarian brought a dog without one of his front legs into a human prosthetic clinic, Animal Ortho (AOC) Care was born.
Campana discovered his true destiny when he saw the canine’s majestic journey. More satisfying to him than any other patient he had ever cared for was watching that dog walk once more. With more than ten years of experience, AOC is a leader in the unique production of external prostheses for animals, including pets.
Richard Campana is a Kinesiology and Sports Medicine graduate
Campana studied sports medicine at Penn State University from 1997 to 2001.
He then pursued a master’s degree in orthotics at Northwestern University and graduated with a degree in human orthotics.
He enrolled at the University of Connecticut to earn his Master’s in prosthetics in 2006 after deciding he needed to learn more about the field.
Since 2002, he has worked as an orthotic specialist in a variety of settings, including the Hanger Orthopedic Group, Infinite Technologies, LLC, and others.
Prior to moving to Virginia, he resided in the Washington, D.C. metro area. He founded Animal Ortho Care in Chantilly, Virginia, in 2005 after realizing his passion for animal prosthetics.
Derrick is wed and has children
Derrick has a twin brother named Darrell who was also born to Jim and Debbie Campana. Derrick’s brother is an architect who also has two sons with his wife Chandra while Derrick is off helping animals. In 2011, Derrick wed Kelly Felton Campana. Cole, born on July 7, 2013, and Jackson James, born on June 7, 2018, are the couple’s two sons.
The Virginia-based family is fully supportive of Campana’s efforts. Although the family prefers to stay out of the spotlight and allow Campana be the center of attention, they are quite active on social media and are adored by both his followers and the owners of his patients.

Making animal prosthetics and other things
Campana has devoted his life to treating amputees, both people and animals. He makes sure that each animal receives the appropriate prosthetic as president and chief executive officer of Animal Ortho Care, and he hopes that the animals will accept it.
Additionally, he creates personalized prosthetic limbs that are tailored to each patient’s unique situation. Pet owners can access videos and instructions on how to take care of their animals and maintain the prosthetic on the company’s website. One can download a PDF that offers all the information they need regarding the prosthetic.
AOC’s website includes all the information needed to help the animal and a blog part where users may learn about various experiences.
The group does everything it can to raise awareness, and Campana always promotes animal prosthesis. He is also the creator of Bionic Pets, a Virginia-based company that offers care to animals all around the world.
