Susi was born into a mixed-race household; her father is of Russian Jewish origin, and her mother is Hungarian.

Her parents were both co-founders of the luxury apparel firm Coach Leatherwear Company in 1961, which grew into a multi-million dollar empire.

Her parents joined the company in the 1940s and would eventually become proprietors after more than a decade, gaining control through a leveraged buyout.

After two years of dating, the couple married on a Caribbean beach, but their reception was held six months later to accommodate more people, with mariachi and zydeco musicians performing.

Buckets of ice cream sandwiches were also offered instead of the wedding cake, which was featured six months before. They have been married for over 30 and have two children both sons: Benno and Leo.

Aside from their enterprises, they possess several properties, including a permanent house in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York City. They also have a summer home on Traverse Bay in Northport, Michigan.
