Bellamy voluntarily resigned from his teaching position at Albemarle High School during the ensuing investigations.

In 2005, he was convicted of theft, obstructing justice, and a series of failures to appear and register, as well as multiple driving offenses and tickets.

In January 2017, while collecting signatures for his petition, Kessler faced legal trouble.
