Pennington attended Kennesaw State University for art and history after graduating from Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia. Fame on television

Following graduation from college, Pennington worked as a set designer on the Oscar-winning movie Leaving Las Vegas. Soon after, she was cast in TLC’s Trading Spaces in 2000.
