Guy Penrod, 57, a gospel music singer, had been suffering from chest pain since August 2012. Following the incident, the singer was required to undergo a heart stent procedure in order to fully recover.
The news of his health quickly spread, causing confusion among his fans, as many assumed he was having a heart attack when in fact he was experiencing chest pain.
In June 2020, one perplexed fan took to Twitter, mentioning Gaither Music [Penrod is a member of the music group] and asking if the news of Penrod’s heart attack was true.
“I heard that Guy Penrod had a heart attack. Is this true? I don’t see anything online.”

There has been no official statement or news that the singer has ever had a heart attack. As a result, the story is unequivocally false.
Furthermore, on August 21, 2012, Gaither Music’s official Facebook account issued a statement stating that Penrod had a routine heart procedure that week and was recovering well.
The post also confirmed that the singer’s four solo concert dates had been rescheduled and that the rescheduled concert dates would be announced as soon as the schedule changes were finalized.
The full statement was as follows:
“Our dear friend, Guy Penrod, had to postpone four solo concert dates due to a routine heart procedure he underwent this week. The procedure went beautifully, and he is recovering nicely, but he will need to allow himself a couple weeks off the road to fully recuperate. He will announce the rescheduled concert dates as soon as those schedule changes have been finalized.”
In February 2021, Penrod is still in good health and has reported no signs of heart or chest pain.
He lives with his wife, Angie Clark, whom he met at Liberty University, and they have eight children and three grandchildren.
The gospel singer was born to a pastor and grew up in Texas before moving to New Mexico. He attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he studied music and vocal performance.
On the side, he worked as a university representative, traveling and singing on weekends.
As a result, by the end of his University tenure, he had gained valuable singing and ministry experience in addition to his Bachelor’s degree.
Penrod then started working as a music teacher at a Christian school in Atlanta, Georgia. From there, he quickly became a successful studio session singer before joining the Gaither Vocal Band in 1994.
As the band’s lead singer, he has since become a powerful figure in the group. The singer’s involvement with the band continues to this day.
