Republican Ben Carson held the position of 17th Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for the United States from 2017 to 2021. He is a former neurosurgeon who is regarded as a pioneer in the field.

His youngest son graduated from Yale with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Applied Information Technology.
