Rob Collins, an Australian television and stage actor who plays Amos in the 2020 TV series Mystery Road, began his career in the public sector. However, he began to feel that he did not belong in the 9-to-5 world.
He, like a Pixar character, was looking for a way to be a part of the environment that made him happy.

Rob was born on August 4, 1979, in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, to parents of Tiwi Island origin. He told the National Indigenous Times (NIT) that he was the type of youngster who enjoyed spending time outside and spent his childhood playing football and fishing.
As a youth, I shared my time between Darwin and Bathurst Island (Wurrumiyanga)… We’d go over during the school holidays in June and July. As a teenager in Darwin, it was all about footy and fishing.
Rob went on to study Business after graduating from high school. He started to feel like he was in the correct place while doing so. His head lecturer at the university where he was enrolled suggested that he would be better off pursuing artistic endeavors. Despite this, he chose to study Business to please his family.
I recall sitting down with the course’s principal lecturer… He examined my electives, which were all creative… ‘Perhaps this isn’t for you?’ he suggested. Perhaps you should try something creative’… I didn’t pay attention at the time because I was focused on finishing my degree and making the people pleased.
He started his career as a public servant after graduating with a degree in business. He realized he needed to explore the creative side of things during this period.

Rob desired to play a larger role in the world
Rob did not want to be trapped in the cycle while working a nine-to-five job. On the side, he joined a band with his brother and attended an acting course with his brother at a local community arts group in Darwin. According to the National Indigenous Times (NIT), Rob stated he related to Pixar characters because he wanted to be a bigger part of the world during this uncertain period.
I have a sneaking suspicion that there must be something more to that nine to five – after all, every Pixar film is predicated on this concept. I was one of those Pixar characters that realized there was a large world out there and was trying to figure out how to fit in.
In three years, he went from drama school to fatherhood to the silver screen. Rob contacted Australian playwright and artistic director Wesley Enoch following the workshop, feeling confident in his acting abilities. The latter gave him the push he needed to pursue a career in acting.
With this drive, he enrolled at Sydney’s National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) in 2011. He was also cast as King Mufasa in an Australian theater rendition of The Lion King while in college.
By the time he concluded his studies at NIDA in 2013, he had three children with his wife, Laetitia Lemke: sons Blake and Jordan, and daughter Rachel. His family was very supportive of his career and accompanied him on his acting engagements throughout Australia.
He was then cast as Waruu West in Cleverman in 2016. (2016-2017). That was Rob’s first major acting role, and since then, he’s only seen the brighter side of things. According to IMDb, Rob has had 14 acting credits to his name since then, including Extraction (2020), Mystery Road (2020), The Wrong Girl (2016-2017), Total Control (2019), and Glitch (2017-2019). His most recent film, The Drovers Wife (Legend of Molly Johnson), is currently in post-production and will be released this year.
We’re not sure if Rob still considers himself a real-life Pixar character, but we doubt it now that he’s established himself as an actor.
