Friese was born in the town of Marburg, Germany. She graduated from the famous University of Television and Film Munich with a degree in production and media management.
She gained experience as a commercial producer at Made in Munich and Neue Sentimental Film Berlin after graduating. Following that, in the years 2004 and 2005, she produced short films such as Perle and Quietsch. In 2010, she collaborated with Baran bo Odar to produce her debut feature film, The Silence.
Jantje Friese Debuted as a Screenwriter in 2014
Jantje Friese made her screenwriting debut in the German language techno-thriller film Who Am I: No System Is Safe in 2014. Her spouse Baran bo Odar, who also directed the film, co-wrote the screenplay with her.
When it was chosen to premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and the 17th European Union Film Festival, the film attracted international attention. The thriller went on to win the Bambi Award for Best German Film as well as three German Film Awards.

According to IMDb, the 43-year-old screenwriter played the role of Kassenfrau in Annaottoanna, an experimental short film. In the year 2004, the short film was released.
Friese also had a recurring appearance as a party visitor in the short film Dolls, released in 1999.
