In the hit TV series Ozark, Marc Menchaca played gay character Russ Langmore.
Menchaca, on the other hand, had no idea his character was gay when he first started the show.
Menchaca claimed during an interview with Ryan Perez of An Actor Despairs that he began portraying Russ without understanding the character’s sexual preferences.
The actor was asked if he was cool with sexual circumstances with any gender while auditioning for the job, despite not knowing the sexuality of the character he was playing. The actor had replied warmly to this.
Rather of presenting his character’s story and sexuality progression all at once, the show’s creators delivered Russ’ story to Menchaca screenplay by script. When a co-star on the show mentioned some “brokeback stuff” that was coming up in the show, he got a hint about his character’s homosexuality.
Menchaca told the showrunner what he had heard from his co-star the next day because he hadn’t seen or received the scripts for upcoming episodes.
Chris, the showrunner, then acknowledged that his character was gay, completing the reveal. Menchaca went on to say that he liked his character’s sexual stance since it gave him more facets.
One of his favorite characters is Russ Langmore. While speaking with Go San Angelo about his career, the actor admitted that the character he played in Ozark was one of the roles that meant the most to him.
The three parts that have meant the most to me are Lauder Wakefield’s run on ‘Homeland,’ my character in ‘Ozark,’ and Jack Hoskins’s role in ‘The Outsider,’ both of which have stayed with me the longest, or at least the most profoundly.

I enjoy reading about broken and flawed characters that I can ‘bite into.’ We’re all flawed, and in order to make these characters more human… I get to visit parts of myself that I don’t often visit in my daily life.
Russ Langmore from the Netflix original series Ozark is played by Marc Menchaca.

Aside from Netflix’s Ozark, the actor has also acted in Homeland, Elementary, and Amy Schumer’s Inside Amy Schumer. The actor is most known for his role as police investigator Jack Hoskins in HBO’s The Outsider.
